History Lesson:

While some people believe John Henry was a mythical man, he actually existed.  In the late 1800's, during work on the Great Bend Tunnel in Talcott, WV, John Henry challenged a machine designed to chisel away rock.  Long story short, he won the race but died shortly thereafter.  He was probably buried somewhere near the entrance to the Great Bend Tunnel, which is no longer used, but still exists today.

A statue stands directly above the tunnel he helped dig.  Here's the plaque from that statue.

As of 2003, plans were underway to move the statue to a park, which would be located in front of the old tunnel entrance.
